Keeping the house clean

Getting ahead of the grime

With a house of six people, four being young -messy- kids it can be easy to get behind in cleaning. But that also means that grime and grossness can accumulate pretty dang easily.

I’ve found the best way to combat the grime is to keep to a schedule. It helps keep me from being overwhelmed by the sheer amount of stuff that needs to happen for a nice comfy clean house. I went onto Pinterest and tried to find a list that seemed to work best for me.

I found this one to be the most printer friendly, and the one that worked with my houses schedule the best. However, I am not a fan of the religious overtones so I edited it before printing by simply cropping it into this –

Thursday is more of a swing, basement cleaning or general laundry day since we don’t have a laundry room, but otherwise I find this to work for us very well! Having it printed out and somewhere promident helps keep me on track and helps me explain to the kids “We can do xyz fun thing but first we need to do our chores.”

Today is Monday, and one of the things that is important to me is making sure the germs stay where they should. With two of our little ones being touchy feely kids who like to explore everything making sure something will disinfect is one of the most important things I look for in cleaning supplies. But because I don’t want to spend a fortune on a million different products I like to use basically two products to clean the entire house.

Lysol All Purpose Cleaner

Lysol All Purpose Cleaner comes in a few different scents to mix it up, and the 650ml bottles are under $3 on amazon.ca. It works on all surfaces, from the countertops to the bathtub and anything in between. This, coupled with my handy trusty Mr. Clean Magic Eraser Original gets everything off everything. My favorite trick to getting the bathroom clean is putting the shower on as hot as it can and then leaving it to sit for about a minute or two, just long enough for the steam to accumulate in the bathroom. Then a good spray of the cleaner and a swipe of the magic eraser makes everything perfect. From the baseboards to the light fixtures this helps get everything clean quickly so I can get onto the next chore, or take care of the kiddos.

While I share these products because I love to use them, as an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.
